   My name is Edwin Salas Acosta, a Mexican artist currently based in the United States. I am submitting my work Mexican Scum, a 66-minute interdisciplinary performance for one actor and live piano. Mexican Scum explores the psychological and political contradictions of migration between Mexico and the United States through the journey of a single character who transforms from undocumented migrant to participant in the very system that enforces exclusion. The work addresses themes of internalized racism, colonial identity, nationalism, and institutional violence through physical theater, live music, and ritualized imagery. The piece is designed for flexible staging and has been developed to engage audiences both emotionally and physically, culminating in a participatory moment that invites collective reflection and connection. I believe this work aligns strongly with your festival’s interest in bold, socially engaged, and experimental performance. I would be honored to be considered for your program.
